This was my second project for my Modelmaking and Prototype class. This project was all about surface finish, and the goal was to have three separate computer mouse models with different levels of finish. Mouse One was the primer model, Mouse Two was primer and spraypaint, and Mouse Three was primer, spraypaint, and clearcoat.

Once I did a few sketches and test models, I started sculpting the final ones with magic sculpt, which I hadn’t worked with before. I found it very nice to work with, the hard part of this project was mostly managing my time between multiple coats of spraypaint, as well as the amount of regular and wet sanding needed to get rid of ay “orange peel” texture.

I’m very happy with all three. My pink mouse is the most realistic and detailed and I’m very happy with the level of finish, but I really had fun with the orange model as I wanted to make it more whimsical in appearance.
