Film Meowoir was my second animatic project for my Visual Storytelling animation class. For this assignment I chose the prompt “Film Noir”, created original characters, wrote a script, and created a beat-board to work off of.  The style of the characters in Film Meowoir  are mostly inspired by old school animation such as Fleischer Studios’ Betty Boop. The final design of the Detective Whiskers character is based off of my very own calico cat, though for simplicity the animatic itself is not in color and has minimal detail.

Everything was drawn in Procreate, and then imported to Adobe Premier Pro where I edited in the sound effects, voices, and background music, as well as stitched all the panels together. The initial script and concept was created by me, and I recruited my parents to be the voice actors. Since they currently are living in Kentucky, and I was in San Francisco at the time, I sent the script over and just let them have fun with it. My dad even threw in some great improvised one-liners that went with the overall theme of the animatic. It was a challenge to create a unique storyline and script but I’m very happy with how it turned out.
