For this portrait, I was inspired by the art style of Fortiche, which is the creative production company and a studio behind the show “Arcane”. My partner and I had just finished watching it, and I loved the art style, especially the dynamic shadows and highlights. I wanted to try to mimic it using my partner as a model. However, as I was working on it, the composition felt off, so I decided to challenge myself with drawing another face- my own. I worked in black and white as I’ve never tried to draw shadows and highlights in this way, and I didn’t want to overcomplicate it for myself. Unlike my other drawings, I tried not to dwell on the sketch for too long, and mostly tried to just keep painting and blending until I was happy with it. Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out. If I did this style again, I’d definitely want to try it in color.
